finals' juz ard e corner
but life still have to go on
i will not succumb to e evil forces of finals!
had a dim sum lunch with mom+fren at chinatown
wat liew it had been a hard-to-digest lunch
my mom n her fren were discussing old-age-security (i.e. the expected returns of their lifetime investment = us kids) (econs jargon lol) in my presence
my mom claimed dat she isnt greedy
she'd be happy with $1000/mth,
from EACH kid =..=
den her fren reminded her actually uni grads nowadays dun earn much *nods hard in agreement*
$2000/mth is an optimistic estimate (of starting pay for arts grads like me)
after CPF deduction income tax n watsoever crap taxes (my contribution to e provision of public services n internalising externalities lol), i'm probably left with $1600
so after my mom takes her claim and me putting aside some $$ for transport + insurance, i shall survive on water + plain white bread (doubt if i can afford wholemeal) on watever dat's remaining =..=
well, my mom seems pretty comfortable with e idea *facial muscle twitches*
they talked abt another fren who pressed $1.2k frm her daughter (who's ard my age n juz started workin) every mth
quoting dat auntie's words: "i spent so much on her education, i invested so much in her, i ought to get dis much. if she
i feel sorry for whoever her daughter is
hmm i get quite irritated with such remarks and mentalities
dat e parents have a right to e child's earnings (or life in general) bcos they fed, clothed, provided for e kid, it's only right they get returns frm their investment
in summary, child=cashcow grazing on their farms
WTH i tot paretal luv is suppose to be unconditional
of course we shd take care of our parents, but it's a responsibility bcos we love them, not an obligation bcos we owe them.
Parents alwayz try to make it an obligation cos they never trust dat their kids are responsible enough *sheesh,
but kids are weird creatures who dislike being told wat to do
they get put off by orders frm above even though they wld have carried out e same action happily on their own initiative
i tink it's kiddo-nature to rebel against e parents which in turn breeds parental distrust (and we get another chicken-egg paradox lol)
anyway it had been an awkward moment, with my mom
later in e afternoon met up with Yuan2 for one last shopping trip b4 i bury myself in my notes and breathe n talk economics
we shopped frm 3+ to 9+ and i was wearing heels!! there're blisters at e sides when i reached hm =..=
