what everyone has been waiting for (yeah right)....
~CHENG'S 2006 WINTER EAT-TILL-YOU-DROP-DEAD TAIWAN TRIP~ *fireworks*
(i'm trying to be as detailed as possible *not that anybody cares lol* but the trip's more than 2 weeks ago, do forgive me if i get the sequence of the events mixed up *once again, i dont think anybody cares lol*)
9/12/06 Day 1
it sux being the

no moolahs? go China Airline.
did i tell you i'm flight-phobic?
taking planes scare the shit out of me. esp 'reliable' and 'reputable' airlines like China Airline.

they are all gonna die with me.

I'm gonna dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
*hyperventilates**suppresses urge to scream out loud*

die! die! die! everyone gonna dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT, usually happens when i'm flying. but over the years, i've come up with a solution to overcome my phobia....
*gulps down one whole bottle of diet coke mixed with vodka*
*cheng flashes stupefied smile and starts humming + rocking gently*

i'm still gonna die. but i dont really give a damn now.
*cheng stones with glassy eyes for 4hrs*

okay. i din die. sorry to disappoint you.
10/12/06 Day 2
some background information...
i didnt go back to taiwan for a holi. i was back for a PURPOSE.
the govt decided to issue new ICs, so i gotta go back to apply for mine (or else forgo my citizenship)
so we woke up early to avoid the queue at the town council.

breakfast. i noe you cant make out much from the bad pic. lemme enlighten you hur hur.
it's a rice ball made of purple rice (which is supposedly a healthier type of rice).
rice balls are very common in TW. the typical fillings are preserved vegetables, braised hard-boiled egg, pork meat floss, super hard fried you-tiao (overcooked for the extra crunchiness).
it is finger smacking good. i had it everyday back in tw. how i wish they sell it in SG :(

my hometown, Taoyuan~

my first purchase in TW. honeydew-flavoured chewing gum~~
consumers are seriously spoilt with choices in TW. buying a drink at 7/11 means an agonising ten minute, checking out all the options and arriving at a decision.
and unlike SG where 7/11 monopolised the market, there are many 24hr chain mini-marts in TW. the streets are infested with the liked shops. sometimes i wonder how each survives with so much competition o.O

a boring morning at the town council. it was surprisingly efficient. my sentiments reflect the high level of confidence i have in the bureaucracy LOL.
later in the afternoon my mom met up with some frens (*gasp* my mom's more popular than me!) and i wandered ard on my own in the city.

guess what i found in Watsons? yar your friendly family convenience store.

VIBRATERS!!! hahahahahahaha the caterpillar-design makes sense, but DUCK??!?!?

lunch. "Yan Su Ji" (seasoned deep fried chicken)

Bascially you choose the ingredients you want, which wld be deep fried then seasoned with salt and pepper. there're normal stuff like cuttlefish, fries, sausage, chicken etc. and of course plenty of animal innerts that turns many Westernized Singaporeans off hur hur. (i dun mind them thou. in fact i like the hearts. i is barbaric :D)

some may find this gross. this harmless-looking cake-like thingy is made of pig's blood mixed with glutinous rice :D once again, sth common in TW.

the lady told me it's 'rice sausage'. oh well it lives up to its name. it's just glutinous rice made into sausage-form and nth else. =..= i was expecting sth more haha. but anything deep-fried's good.
hmm. i just realize i've been eating lotsa glutinous rice keke.

hot chocolate from 7/11. yar they have hot canned drinks in store! and the drinks come with cardboard holders~ how thoughtful. in fact many packet drinks are microwavable so ppl cld drink it hot in the winter.
the city felt foreign yet familiar. stimes i wonder what kinda life i'd lead in the city if i had never left TW.
11/12/06 Day 3
we met up with my mom's frens who'd be bringin us to the suburbans.

they drove us to the outskirts of the city to visit some gardens/farms.

*stifles a yawn*

the aunties were very excited.
*cheng sits down on a bench and stares blankly ahead*
Auntie 1: "You should visit such places often, study the way they arrange the flowers and get some ideas on how to do your own (flower arrangement)."
Cheng: *raises an eyebrow* *grunts* (i cldnt remember what i replied. but it must be sth politically correct which made her happy and she left me alone lol)

cheng entertains herself. the first few days were pretty warm, with the temp hovering ard 22-23C so i cld still wear short sleeve and not freeze hehe.

my mom's a photowhore. it runs in e family. check out the way her head's tilted down. she believes it makes her face looks smaller. yar. she believes.

i'm just taking photos for e record. flowers really aint my thing :P
at last, lunch time. something to look forward to and a distraction from the endless auntie yakkings.

we went to a place called Tina's Kitchen. Apparently that's the place where they filmed Meteor Garden.

you can eat outdoors and feed yourself while feeding the mosquitos.
trees, vegetations, man-made lakes are good.
you know,
good.
good breeding sites.

Auntie 1 was crazy. She wanted to eat outdoors. Siao. Auntie 2
Tina's Kitchen serves organic food (i tink), or 'healthy food' in general.

nice tea. lemongrass n mint's all you need.

the set meal.
we went to another building for the dessert.

very cosy and country-feel. you are free to hold e teddies lol.

the homemade cookies are thick and rich. i like!
hmm personally i like the cookies best. the mains and sides are good but nth spectacular. pretty average :P
we spent the whole afternoon at e place, the aunties chatted and gossiped while i pretended to be part of the conversation and told myself it's all really a bad dream.
it's comforting to know that i wasnt enjoying myself. sth gotta be very VERY wrong if i feel totally at ease with them.
juz as my tolerance for more auntie-talk was wearing off, it was finally time to go home (back to e city where i'm free to wander ard n not hangout w my mom n company).
i decided the suburbans aint for me :P
*to be continued*
(sexy sizzling hot hotspring fotos coming up *winkz*~ stay tuned~)
